Briefing On The CBI – NSE Corporate Governance Rating System (CGRS)
The Convention on Business Integrity in partnership with The Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE) is developing a Corporate Governance Rating System for companies listed on the NSE.
The system aims to raise overall corporate governance standards in the country, by providing companies with an incentive to develop better governance practices. It is providing opportunities for companies to differentiate themselves in the market place. According to a recent IFC report, good corporate governance ultimately increases a company’s access to capital.
The CGRS is a key element in establishing a tradable Corporate Governance Index (CGI), which The NSE plans to launch in 2014. The index and other criteria will form the basis for listing on The NSE’s proposed ‘Premium Board’ which shall also come on board in 2014.
